club scenes in films are curious moments of anti-reality, in trying to convey a sense of reality the heightened artifice of these scenes always end up looking so contrived and forced that it takes on a whole new profound significance. i have been obsessed with this clip in basic instinct since i first saw it in the mid 90′s, the absurd balletic choreography of this supposed impromptu dancing, the lasciviousness of michael and sharon’s gaze, the neon club sheen incites something truly hypnotic. also i really like michael douglas’s v neck

Having been a teenager in Germany when Techno became huge there, the blood bath in this scene appears a lot less credible or scary to me than the movie Blade’s late-90′s Hollywood interpretation of a “techno club”. Lascivious models with triangular haircuts, shoulder pads, dancing with their suits on(!), everybody’s introverted… funny. In reality, nobody wore shoulder pads because nobody had a shirt on. Makes the Basic Instinct club scene appear authentic – except that the women there have hairdos like empress Sissi.

Verhoeven’s Showgirls has the most hilarious club scene ever. Elizabeth Berkeley fails miserably trying to be sexy and her dancing!!! well i will let others be the judge of that. Hilarious.
Shame though as her career stopped dead after that performance. I love the movie but mostly because its so bad its good. A classic!
