I think Cameron’s speech has been unfairly reported in both the left-wing and right-wing press. He wasn’t slamming multiculturalism as a failed idea. He was pointing out the contradiction in tolerating – and in some cases funding – groups that have views that run contrary to principles of freedom and dignity. A mishmash of cultures is all well and good, but passively tolerating the hateful views of some subsections of society has only served to undermine liberalism, tolerance and multiculturalism.
