is this the state of british indie rock right now?

i cant stop thinking about t4 on the beach. ive been away from the british music scene for a while now so watching that show on the weekend brought a lot of things sharply into focus.
i thought this performance though was by far the most worrying of all them all. 5 days later and i still i cant stop thinking about how painful the whole thing seems. am i reading too much into it? watch it for yourselves.

Exactly Kele! British music’s been on it’s arse for a long time now, especially indie rock. Surely this is screaming for Bloc Party to come storming back and save it?

I’m not sure t4 on the beach is really a festival for indie rock fans. It’s lineup REALLY doesn’t interest me – it’s more for 14 year old girls who really just want to see N Dubz.

Couldn’t agree more. Bloc Party reunion is desperately needed!

Worst festival of the summer by a mile.
Glastonbury showed a lot more promise.
Hard Fi didn’t make any of the main stages.
I can’t wait to see Bloc Party back at festivals. Only band that can save the British Indie Rock scene.

SomeBlocPartyFan

lolol. I don’t even consider this close to Indie Rock.
Blehhh, this was horrible.
But with the new Arctic Monkeys record that came out and was simply brilliant, I’d consider that the state of British Indie Rock.
Love and miss you and Bloc Party!

Joey

I agree, t4 could be a great thing but there is alot of miming and mistakes.

Hard Fi should be ashamed of themselves, they are better than this!

Everytime I hear this song it literally churns my stomach, now ive seen this video with the white jean/dickhead stance combo of the lead singer I’m close to regurgitating my lunch. Fucking hell… and look at all of those mindless twats eating it up in the crowd. Im not even sure of the lyrics im just sure they’re not worth my attention.

I was there. Although it is a bit of a pop-fest aimed at 14 year old girls, it’s always had its ‘cooler’ second stage. I only go because you can see indie bands playing live and close up, because most people are only interested in the 2-song turn around of pop acts on the main stage. Sadly the second stage has gone downhill over the last couple of years as there are less and less bands charting to be able to put on it.

It hit a new low when it was headlined this year by Hasslehoff’s daughters. If Hard-Fi played this stage they would have rocked it – but as it was they replaced Jessie J, so had to play the main stage. I’ve never seen such a bad reaction to a band in all my years of ‘festival’ going. Not because they were shit, but because todays kids just didnt understand their music. Hundreds walked away during the first song – even Living for the Weekend left the crowd shrugging their shoulders wondering what this was all about.

A very sad day for me – realisation that RnB Pop will continue to dominate our charts for a long time to come, and indie rock is dead in the water.

I saw Bright Eyes on wednesday, really puts this video sharply into focus. Having said that – I’d never have thought to check out anything from T4 on the beach – as I’d expect it to be just like this

I agree with you on this. I am from Weston, and live just two blocks away from the seafront. I also work in the towns *ONLY* music shop, (it’s a shame).

Now, Weston actually has a really good music scene. There are alot of bars and small venues that hold open mic nights, along with gigs for a couple of hundred people. It’s a warming atmosphere with people from all different walks of life listening to different kinds of music.

But this isn’t one of the music events that the people of Weston look forward to. It’s pop that applies to the younger generation. And that’s all it’s billed as.

For the most part, the music isn’t live, the acts don’t enjoy themselves, and the atmosphere is dead after a few hours. It’s alot of fuss over nothing, and the music is the same.

Will

Indie is indie no more.

Nicole

I can see what you mean! :-)
But is t4 on the beach representative for the British music scene? Does it not always have quite errrm crappy bands?

Robin

I had to stop this 1:20 -in. It’s brutal. …and not in a heavy metal sort of way.

cen

indie music is so insipid nowadays without bp :|

hayden

I agree it seems almost fake to be entertaining for the pop crowd

Clay

Boooy… I didn’t know whether to love or cry. The craziest thing is his assurance while embarrassing himself.

Clay

Did I just write “love” instead of “laugh”?

BigBigBro

Then maybe you should come back?

Not gonna lie man- this is pretty bad. It’s like they won a contest to get on stage. Please hurry up and release something good!

ben

this is sad…but i guess each target group
gets what they deserve.

Kele, Sir, this is your clarion call! The “great” British music scene needs you! Aside from the fact that the singer stole my dad’s best wedding reception dance moves, no-one on the stage has any belief in what they’re playing or “singing.” There may as well be a clocking in machine at sidestage. Thoroughly depressing.

Julian

This is why we need you back so badly, Kele!

Ollie

I think you know what you need to do Kele. Bring back your music with Bloc Party that helped change and shape so many peoples lives, you guys make a difference!

Agreed, but this is exactly why we need Bloc Party to come back!
