adam phillips on kindness

There is a distinct lack of kindness here in England. People just arn’t acknowledging one another anymore, walking down the street, in line at the supermarket, buses, planes etc… they’re all heads down and away trying to get to their destination without making contact with another human being. For fear of “strangers”? when did they get such a bad reputation? are people scared to smile and say hello? People seem surprised and when I say hello or smile. Where has this come from. I think deep down most people want to communicate and be kind but there is a powerful suppression on this from society and todays culture. Open up, smile, be happy, make someone else happy, acknowledge your fellow human being (they might turn out to be your best friend) and be the best person you can be.
